Sport plays a vital role in social and economic development - it contributes to improving health, psychosocial and psychological wellbeing. In essence, sport helps build a culture of peace and tolerance by bringing people, individuals and communities together on common ground and bridging cultural divides to promote understanding and mutual respect. Kililane Sport Development Trust commits itself to assist disadvantaged and underprivileged individuals, sport teams, sport clubs, educational institutions and persons with disabilities through funding, events-, equipment- and facility sponsorship. The Trust is committed to ensure that sport makes a positive contribution to the Eden-district, Western Cape, South Africa. To achieve our goals, the Trust solely depends upon donations, charitable organisations, corporate sponsorships, government grants and special projects initiated by the Trust itself, e.g. climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Heinz Mueller, a brave disabled long distance athlete, and the trustees of the Kililane Sport Development Trust, will attempt to climb up Kilimanjaro to reach the Uhuru Peak in October in an effort to boost the establishment of the Kililane Sport Development Trust for the benefit of the sport community. Our vision is to raise sufficient funds through the active participation of the business sector and other charitable organisations to cover our costs as well as an additional R3 million for sport development. Heinz lost his left leg in a car accident 26 years ago and since then completed a full marathon and 4 Argus cycle tours. He plans to accompany Neels van Zyl and Lana Miles, both trustees of Kililane, on the trek up Mount Kilimanjaro. Kililane Sport Development Trust commits itself to assist previously disadvantaged and underprivileged individuals, sport teams, sport clubs, educational institutions and persons with disabilities through funding, events-, equipment- and facility sponsorship. The Trust is committed to ensure that sport makes a positive contribution in South Africa. The main goals of the Kililane Sport Development Trust are: · To ensure equal and quality sport opportunities for individuals, sport clubs, educational institutions and persons with disabilities; · To produce confident, healthy and dignified sportswomen and sportsmen who play by the rules and give the best they can, separate from the outcome; · To provide sport equipment and/or facilities, and assist in sports events for the development of skills in various sporting disciplines; · To use sport as a tool for advocacy in the community - thus, generating awareness about key issues through working with athletes as ambassadors and the involvement of the media; · To use sport as a tool for social mobilization in the community; · To use sport as a tool to build and foster partnerships between community, public and private sector, non-governmental organisations and sports organisations. To achieve our goals, the Trust solely depends upon donations, charitable organisations, corporate sponsorships, government grants and special projects initiated by the Trust itself, e.g. climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. The trustees are not beneficiaries of the Kililane Sport Development Trust as set out in the trust deed. |
